If you believe in what Gay Money says....here are some things you can do.

Enough people have asked how you can help get the word out. Through the book tour I've learned there are in fact there are many things that an individual can do - according to what you're comfortable with. Here's a smorgasbord list of ideas to use for inspiration.

  • Go into a book store and say VERY LOUDLY "I want GAY MONEY."
  • Send a copy to your homophobic brother's gay nephew or niece.
  • Give a copy to your lawyer and mark the chapter on the 60s.
  • Read the section on the 40s midlife on the subway just loud enough that people sitting on your coat & standing on your feet can hear - but only during rush hour.
  • Ask the bookstore why it's only in gay & lesbian studies [is there a heterosexual studies section?] and not also in personal finance.
  • Suggest it for a book discussion coffee klatch.
  • Paste two copies on a bra to wear in the gay pride march - pouch copy optional.
  • Tell your friend who's been locked in a career to read the chapter on careers if she can find an armchair at Barnes & Noble (otherwise she has to buy the book).
  • Go to the beach, look at the clouds, and dream financial dreams.
  • Give a copy to your physician - marking the section on health, long-term financial survival with HIV, or viatication.
  • Put post-its on pages where you think your lover should do something and leave it in the path to the coffeemaker.
  • Suggest to your favorite philanthropy that they might want to distribute copies for the 70s chapter on making an e-statement - or have me speak to donors.
  • Whip out the balance sheet of unsafe sex section if a condom isn't suggested.
  • Give it to your therapist - pointing out the timelines and decades chapters.
  • Talk about it online if you can get beyond "hello" "bye-" "hi!" "so long" "@#!"
  • Recopy the OUT excerpt and send it to needy friends who are thirty something or involved with a thirty something.
  • Try dialing up gaymoney.com in July to check out many past articles and vital statistics about Colin.
  • Pointedly discuss with a friend the 20s discussion of spending in the most expensive store near you - preferably while trying on Armani sport coats.
  • Ask an organization to mention it in their newsletter or write to Gretchen Koss at Dell at 1540 Broadway, New York, NY 10036, 782-8672, for a review kit.
  • Talk about it on phone sex lines.
  • Find more lesbians willing to talk about their money matters.
  • Search for the lost chapter on Teen Money (not the one on Teeny Money). Hint: call or write-Per or the Massachusetts governor's commission on gay youth.
  • Put a post-it over the word "money" in Gay Money, hold it in the crook of your arm, and lift up the post-it to flash "money" at selected people in the street.
  • Photocopy the hell out of it but make sure you leave off the best page.
